"Star Formation in the Eagle Nebula"
24" x 36" Acrylic © 1996

Huge gaseous pillars, light years long, hide embryonic stars in the Eagle Nebula. As the intense radiation from new stars erode the pillars, the infant stars are revealed. This nebula is 8000 light years distant (one light year is almost six trillion miles!).
