"Death of a Comet"
24" x 36" Acrylic © 1993

A comet streaks through the atmosphere above powerful thunderstorms. These huge balls of rock and ice are believed to be the debris left over from the formation of the solar system. Occasionally rogue comets encounter planets such as Jupiter or Earth and are deflected into different orbits or, as in this case, collide violently. Such an event occurred on Jupiter in 1994. If such an event as this had occurred on Earth all life would probably have been annihilated.
