"Beacon in the Sky"

In 1992 the Arecibo Radio Observatory discovered a pulsar with interruptions in the signal indicating the existence of at least two planets and possibly a third. The planets are about two Earth masses each and must be comparatively new, having formed from material ejected from the supernova that created the pulsars. Beacon in the Sky was commissioned by Sky and Telescope Magazine for the May 1992 issue.
