"The Glory of
Orion" A planet and its moon float serenely before the Great Nebula of Orion. This immense cloud of mostly hydrogen gas measures nearly 30 light years across, and contains enough material to form 10,000 stars like our sun. Containing some of the youngest stars known, it is believed to be a stellar nursery. This Nebula, which is approximately 1600 light years distant, can be seen with the naked eye as a hazy patch of light located below the belt stars in the Constellation of Orion. The Glory of Orion was shown in the Cleveland Museum of Natural History's national exhibition "Space Art: Probing the Outer Limits" and is prominently featured in the extremely popular Star Trek planetarium show "Orion Rendezvous". |
