"Vallis Marineris"
30" x 48" Acrylic © 1987

Sunlight briefly pierces the gloom of a raging Martian dust storm, highlighting the towering four mile high cliffs of the huge canyon, Vallis Marineris.

This painting was carefully transcribed from a photo taken by Mariner 9, which orbited Mars in 1970.

This painting was featured in Isaac Asimov's Library of the Universe and In the Stream of Stars: the Soviet American Space Art Book. It was also shown in IAAA's international exhibit "Dialogues" in 1991.
