"Eclipse of Ra"
24" x 36" Acrylic © 8/97

Between 3000 BC and 1000 BC Egypt experienced some 22 total solar eclipses; yet no records exist to tell us how the Egyptians responded to these events. A total solar eclipse is one of the most awe-inspiring spectacles in nature, capable of deeply affecting even the most jaded, analytical observer, ancient or modern. Here members of a large estate watch in stunned silence as the moon covers the sun Amen Re or Ra, there primary deity. The event will pass in minutes, but the effect on the human psyche may last a life time.
